My Father’s Chair, 2025

Cyanotypes on cotton, 150 × 300 cm each

For My Father’s Chair, Baranowsky created in her Berlin studio large-scale cyanotypes of one chair of the first dining room set from her parental home. As if viewed through a window, slanted by the camera angle, the viewer looks down at the empty, distinctive chair from the 1960s. What type of wood might it be carved from? However, the camera perspective as suggested by the crossbars of the window frame is an illusion; the cyanotype is created solely by the incoming light and the shadow it casts.
